BOENNIGHEIM, Germany (May 16, 2023) – In April 2023, Hohenstein added testing and certification in two new areas of protective clothing: protective suits and gloves against chemicals and against infectious agents. These are considered personal protective equipment (PPE) and therefore covered by European Regulation (EU) 2016/425.

PPE against infectious agents (microorganisms, parasites) is used in many types of work (e.g., in sewage and waste disposal plants, for animal care, for hazardous waste disposal from hospitals, etc.) where there is potential for exposure. The clothing should protect wearers from the mediums in which the microorganisms are contained, such as liquids, aerosols or solid dust particles. Hohenstein.US/PPE-Infect

Chemical PPE protects the wearer from chemicals in a gaseous, liquid and/or solid state. The EU regulation classifies chemical protective clothing into 6 types, with different protection levels from gas-tight to restricted liquid-tight. Hohenstein.US/PPE-Chemical

Hohenstein tests and certifies the following types:
-    EN 14605: Protective clothing against liquid chemicals: Liquid-tight (type 3) or spray-tight (type 4) and partial protection types PB[3] and PB[4]
-    EN 13982-1: Protective clothing against airborne solid particulates: Type 5
-    EN 13034: Protective clothing against liquid chemicals: Type 6 and PB[6]
