Test Criteria

Using a combination of standardized and Hohenstein testing methods and instruments, the effective thermal insulation of the surface material and the clothing is measured. Test procedures include ISO 11092 and ISO 15831, the Hohenstein Skin Model and thermal manikins.

On a case-by-case basis, additional testing is conducted with test persons in the climate chambers.

Temperature Range Calculation

The measured values provide the basis for calculating the temperature range for the tested clothing. The calculation parameters are adjusted depending on the textile product's intended use. For example, winter clothing for sports activities is assessed differently than everyday clothing for cold winter days. It must always be noted that the sensations of cold and warmth are perceived differently and are strongly dependent on the physical activity of the wearer.
